Barbara Persing and Mary Hoover describe “Full Bloom” as a labour of love. Inspired by photos they took of Gerbera Daisies at a local flower shop, these two sisters gathered around their design wall with ideas in mind, moved some things around, and came out with something delightfully unexpected.
Originally released 10 years ago, they are honoured (and so are we!) to bring Full Bloom to a new generation of quilters with this re-release. Partnered with an exclusive fabric collection from Island Batiks, this bold floral quilt is a combination of piecing and appliqué, featuring Barbara’s signature Edge-Colouring Appliqué technique.
Edge-Colouring Appliqué was born out of Barbara’s need to add dimension to her quilts and does not use fusible web. It both finishes the edges of appliqué and adds an organic appearance to support the quilt design (matching thread is essential for this). The upside of this technique is that it looks great whether you are a beginner or an expert! “The messier the better”, as Barbara says.
