Soak and Flatter: the perfect laundry and ironing companions for quilts, quilting, and more!
We have restocked our Soak and Flatter supply! Featuring 6 scents and a scentless formulation, Soak products are one of the most leading-edge, eco-friendly products that you need in your home.
Come along with us, your friends at Stitch by Stitch, as we care for some soakworthy items! Something is soakworthy when it is extra special or meaningful to you due to time, effort, age, or sentiment. Soak can be used in a washing machine but it's perfect for the things you might prefer to hand wash because there is no need for a rinse! Just soak (15 minutes), squeeze, and hang (or lay flat)!
Normally, I wash the children's clothing in the washing machine and then hang to dry. I do find that this makes the clothes a bit stiff, but when I used Soak and hung the clothes up there was no stiffness at all! The fabric was actually soft? Like it "fluffed" the fibres. I washed the baby's quilt at the same time. It's been getting lots of use as a play mat and it was time for some TLC. (Psst: it's from the Basic Quilt Sampler class. We have a course coming up, starting on October 21st. Check it out here.) Soak does not remove stains, so make sure you do your regular stain treatment before soaking!
The next day I soaked a wool sweater and some stuffies. Remember: lay knit items flat to dry. Also: if you wash the stuffies, your toddler may become distressed that their friend is wet. They may cry when you squeeze the water out. They may want to hug their friend and they may not understand that even if you get a towel their friend will still be wet. You may want to do this after they are asleep next time. I do prefer washing stuffies by hand, especially if they have glass eyes or any hard plastic parts.
The last thing I washed was something very delicate, a table cloth with crocheted and cross stitched decorations that belonged to my great great grandmother! It was rather novel to wash it similarly to how she would have and then hang it in the sun to dry. I used the celebration scent, which is inspired by the essence of red tea. It was very light and pleasant! Please know that while I did all the washing outside, you can wash inside, as well, in your sink! Soak is great for travelling too! We have mini single-use packages that are perfect to take on your next vacation, just in case you need to wash an outfit to make it through your last day!
To finish this off, let's talk about Flatter. Flatter is a starch-free smoothing spray that relaxes wrinkles and freshens fabrics. It does not flake, cause clogs, or leave a residue. It protects the fabric to reduce and resist wrinkles. The scent does add some pizzaz to the task! I enjoyed using it. The Pineapple Grove scent was sweet--as described! If you come vising our store we have scent samples of all six scents: Celebration, Fig, Lacey, Pineapple Grove, Yuzu, and Wild Mint! Or buy all six in mini Soak size, and give them a try at home!
(psst: that's an Oliso mini project iron. AKA the best iron ever. It heats up so quickly! it gets so hot! You can see the new mini project irons (including the Tula Pink version) here).
